Section 7.74 - Paramedic Program

Some requirements for a future paramedic program include:

• Prerequisite of college-level English assessment or completion of college-level English class within the previous 12-months (NCOEMS, 2021)
• Prerequisite of college-level Math assessment or completion of college-level Math class within the previous 12-months (NCOEMS, 2021)
• Prerequisite of EMT license from a state or NREMT prior to start of clinicals
• Minimum of 1,000 total hours in length (NCOEMS, 2021)
• Minimum of 460 didactic hours (including exam time) (NCOEMS, 2021)
• Minimum of 200 lab hours (NCOEMS, 2021)
• Minimum of 100 clinical hours (minimum of 48 hours in a hospital ER) (NCOEMS, 2021).
• Max of four preceptors per student during clinicals (NCOEMS, 2021)
• All students must start clinicals at the same time (no staggered start dates) (NCOEMS, 2021) (NCOEMS, 2023)
• Minimum of 240 field experience hours (NCOEMS, 2021). Max of four preceptors per student during field experience (NCOEMS, 2021)
• Minimum of 20 team leads
