Raven EMS Education Program Manual
RAV-562 SOF National Registry Paramedic Online Bridge Course

This course includes all the classroom and activities to bridge students from military tactical medic to civilian paramedic. This course is presented in an all-online format that is student self-paced and tailored to individual needs identified in a gap analysis at the beginning of the program. Paramedic bridge courses will meet according to the announcement and are typically asymmetric online sessions with an option for symmetric online and in-person sessions at the request of students. Coursework, activities, and testing will focus on personal safety, teamwork, and exceptional, compassionate patient care. Additionally, personal work habits and fitness activities will be included to prepare students for a life-long career in EMS.

Course description

This course is designed to provide previously credentialed state or national paramedic or advanced tactical paramedic students with the most current education trends in paramedic practice. Emphasis is placed on transitions in healthcare. Upon completion, students should be able to integrate emerging trends in pre-hospital care (NC Community Colleges, 2024).

*Classroom time varies by individual due to placement exam and online nature of the curriculum.

Upon completion of the online portion, optional lab time may be scheduled on a case-by-case basis for skills or scenarios. Contact the lead instructor for more information about scheduling extra class or lab time.

CAPCE course number: 25-RVNM-F3-0003

Course Goal

In support of U.S. civilian and military forces working in positions requiring them to be Nationally Registered Paramedics (NRP), Raven Medical is offering a paramedic re-entry, paramedic refresher, or paramedic bridge from Advanced Tactical Paramedic (ATP) training course further preparing students for civilian and austere environments. This training is based on feedback received from the field as well as personal experience of Raven Medical instructors. Raven Medical instructors are known for training military, government agencies, and civilians worldwide. Realizing the everyday dangers in missions involving activities in Search and Rescue (SAR), Personnel Security Details (PSD), or training U.S. allied forces, Raven Medical will take pride to keep this forefront as we provide students this training and take this opportunity seriously. All training meets U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) and National Registry Paramedic standards.

Course Curriculum

The Paramedic Bridge Program will use the 2021 edition of the US DOT NHTSA National EMS Education Standards. Additionally, North Carolina Paramedic Scope of Practice related to medication and skills will be covered throughout the course

Specifically, the current edition curriculum and textbooks from AAOS (published by Jones and Bartlett) will be utilized.
  • Nancy Caroline’s Emergency Care in the Streets Premier Package for Flipped Classroom (9th Edition)
  • ISBN: 9781284256857
  • Minor deviations to the National, North Carolina, and publisher by an instructor such as an addition of relevant practical application or videos related to the topic is acceptable. Moderate deviations or removal of content requires the approval of the lead instructor and program director but all relevant National and North Carolina objectives must still be met. Major deviations or significant content removal must be presented to the program director and medical director for formal approval and potential approval by the advisory committee.

    Course Prerequisites

Students must complete the following before completing the first day of class:

    Course Application and Selection

Raven Medical, Inc. will review completed student applications. Upon meeting minimum admission standards, or higher, qualified applicants will be offered a seat in the Paramedic Bridge Program in the following priority:

    1. Raven employee
    2. Current emergency responder and military enlistment status
    3. Highest entrance exam score (if applicable)

In the event of more applicants than available seats, an entrance exam is used to select and admit prospective paramedic students with the best chances of success in the Paramedic Bridge Program. It is also used as a diagnostic tool to assess the incoming students’ strengths and weaknesses.

    Course Experiential Learning

As a bridge program, heavy reliance on previous training and experience is expected. Once accepted into the paramedic bridge program, a placement exam will be taken to evaluate the student’s readiness to successfully pass the NREMT’s Computer Based Test. A custom curriculum will be developed to meet the gaps identified in the placement exam.

    Course Academic Progress

To remain in and progress through the Paramedic Bridge Program, the student must:

Students are responsible to constantly monitor his or her own learning process. Current standing and grades are available upon request. Every effort will be made to email grade records at the completion of each major milestone.

Students are strongly encouraged to request appropriate faculty guidance and assistance with any curriculum material or any clinical objectives he or she is having difficulty mastering.

    Course Grade Calculation

The overall program score is calculated using the following calculation:

    Course Graduation Requirements

To be eligible for state and national testing, the student must meet the following requirements:

    Course Outline

Only the components highlighted below are REQUIRED regardless of results of the gap analysis test. If a score less than 70% for any lesson is obtained on the gap analysis, the entire lesson must be completed.

Each lesson includes a “lesson guide” which includes specific pages of the textbook to review, links to videos, animations, graphics, and documents that are relevant to the lesson and facilitate learning.

Lesson quizzes are 20 questions, have a maximum of two attempts, and the grade is the average of all attempts.
