RAV-560 SOF National Registry Paramedic Bridge Course

The SOF recertification course mission is to provide Active duty, Non-Active duty/Retired SOF/SOCM Medic, as well as civilian EMTs, an interactive recertification program. In addition, Military and Civilian EMT-P with an Advanced Medical Training course to further prepare or hone their knowledge and skills for their austere working environments and to provide recertification in skills requiring such; To provide a practical foundation in Wilderness Medicine for medical professionals; To teach patient assessment and treatment guidelines for life support until definitive care or evacuation is available; To train the provider in methods to manage medical, dental and trauma emergencies and urgencies in the Combat Environment or wilderness when evacuation is unavailable or unnecessary; To teach techniques and guidelines for Military, Tactical and Wilderness evacuations. To obtain a National Registry EMT-P Certification.

Course Length: 12 days

Prerequisites

Current NREMT-P provider or expired NREMT-P provider with proof of course completion (expired provider card or certificate/diploma of training). Must have a USAJFKSWCS Certificate of training for 300F1, SOCM or SFMS or DD214 demonstrating completion of the above; Must be a US SOCOM Special Operations Combat Medic with a state EMT-P certification (expired or current); US Army Special Forces Medical Sergeant with a state EMT-P certification; US Navy Corpsman w/EMT-P certification; US Air Force Independent Duty Technician w/ EMT-P certification; MD, PA, RN, State and/or National Registry EMT-P or working in a position requiring such training. Any of the above with a current or expired ATP certification.

Course Objectives

Our overall objective for our clients is to assist in recertifying as an EMT, EMR, EMT-I, I-99, state or NR Paramedic, or re-entering as a NREMT Paramedic. In addition, Prehospital medical care in America as well as overseas is changing. As our clients may encounter emergencies while working CONUS or OCONUS, many will be far from any hospital or treatment facility. The objective to each course provided by Raven is to provide training with realistic scenarios enabling our clients to develop a stronger sense of confidence in acting appropriately during an emergency situation, maximizing survivability.

AHA BLS Current and Up to date CPR, AED, Rescue breathing guidelines provided by both lecture and hands on training to meet all AHA certification requirements
AHA ACLS Current and Up to Date guidelines for Emergency Cardiac Care provided by both lecture and hands on training to meet all AHA certification requirements
AHA PALS Current and Up to Date guidelines for Pediatric Emergency Care provided by both lecture and hands on training to meet all AHA certification requirements
NAEMT PHTLS Through current curriculum, will provide both lecture and hands on training to meet certification requirements
Airway, Breathing, and Cardiology 8 hours:
  • Provide ventilatory support for a patient
  • Attempt to resuscitate a patient in cardiac arrest
  • Provide care to a patient experiencing cardiovascular compromise
  • Provide post resuscitation care to a cardiac arrest patient
  • 8 hours:
  • Assess and provide care for respiratory distress in an adult patient
  • Use oxygen delivery system components
  • Perform techniques to assure a patent airway
  • Assess and provide care to a patient experiencing non-traumatic chest pain discomfort
  • Medical Emergencies 3 hours:
  • Assess and provide care to a patient experiencing an allergic reaction
  • Assess a patient with possible overdose
  • Assess and provide care to a near-drowning patient
  • 5 hours:
  • Assess and provide care to a patient with an altered mental status
  • Assess and provide care to a patient with a history of diabetes
  • Assess and provide care to a patient experiencing a seizure
  • Assess and provide care to a patient exposed to heat or cold
  • Assess and provide care to a patient experiencing a behavioral problem
  • Assess and provide care to a patient with suspected communicable disease
  • Trauma 5 hours:
  • Perform a rapid trauma assessment
  • Assess a patient with a head injury
  • Assess and provide care to a patient with a suspected spinal injury
  • Provide care to a patient with a chest injury
  • Provide care to a patient with an open abdominal injury
  • Provide care to a patient with shock/hypoperfusion
  • 1 hour:
  • Assess and provide care to a patient with a painful, swollen, deformed extremity
  • Assess and provide care to a patient with a burn injury
  • Obstetrics and Pediatrics 8 hours:
  • Assess and provide care to an infant or child with cardiac arrest
  • Assess and provide care to an infant or child with respiratory distress
  • Assess and provide care to an infant or child with trauma
  • Assess and provide care to an infant or child with shock/hypoperfusion
  • 8 hours:
  • Assess and provide care to an infant or child with suspected abuse or neglect
  • Assess and provide care to an infant or child with a fever
  • Assess and provide care to an obstetric patient
  • Provide care to a newborn
  • Provide care to a mother immediately following delivery of a newborn
  • Operational Tasks 2 hours:
  • Use body mechanics when lifting and moving a patient
  • Communicate with a patient while providing care

    Each student will receive a Student Handbook. All training materials are current, up-to-date training guidelines from the below references. Raven will provide materials on-line for students to review prior to it being covered in the classroom. We will also provide approximately 18 practice exams for our students preparing for the NREMT CAT exam, both as homework and in-classroom work.

    Field Training Exercise

    Upon request, Raven will conduct FTX/Advanced Medical Training opportunities to sum up all lecture and prior hands-on during both daytime and night-time hours. These training rotations will include live fire (rifle, shotgun and pistol) as well as Simulation Utilizing Live Animals (SULA). Helicopter operations can also be utilized for additional fee when available.

    Course Certifications

    Raven will provide certificates of training for all students and intends to offer the following certificates to those who meet the standard for the additional certifications (obtain the required grade on examinations):

    Course Schedule

    Raven will schedule one Paramedic Refresher Course per Quarter. Please refer to our website and Facebook site for current scheduled courses. If you are requiring training different than our schedule, please contact us as soon as possible so we can attempt to accommodate your requirement. Our Courses will typically begin at 0800 -1200 and 1300-1700 for Lectures and/or Hands-on/Skills Training with a one-hour lunch break. We will normally not schedule classes on Sundays, unless necessary.
