Purpose
Raven Medical, Inc. is committed to delivering cognitive and psychomotor examinations for EMS education while ensuring the security, integrity, and confidentiality of all examinations content to protect against unauthorized use, distribution, and exploitation.
Scope
This policy applies to all EMS instructors, staff, proctors, students, and any individual involved in the development, administration, or handling of examination material.
Examination Content Protection Policy
Faculty, staff, and students are responsible for all material they have access to. Copyrighted material and sensitive material such as quizzes, tests, exams, and skill evaluation forms shall be secured in a manner to limit exposure, plagiarism, and cheating.
Examinations shall be designed to accurately assess the knowledge and skills of students while minimizing opportunities for cheating or exploitation. Cognitive exams must be administered in a controlled environment with proper supervision to ensure the integrity of the examination process. Psychomotor exams must be conducted in settings that simulate real-world scenarios while maintaining strict oversight to prevent any form of exploitation. All examination materials must be securely stored and only accessible to authorized personnel. Students are prohibited from recording, reproducing, or distributing examination materials in any form.
Assessment and Evaluation
- Educators shall regularly evaluate learners’ knowledge and skills using formative and summative assessments (e.g., written exams, practical skills evaluations).
- Collect and analyze feedback from learners to improve program delivery and content using KR21-22 or other means of test item analysis.
Examination Development Security
- All examination content shall be developed in a secure environment by authorized personnel.
- Computers and personal devices containing educational material shall remained locked when the user is away from the work station or device.
- Exam questions and scenarios will undergo regular review to ensure alignment with National EMS Educational Standards and best practices.
- Access to draft or final examination content is restricted to designated educators and instructional staff.
Examination Storage Security
- Examination materials must be stored in password-protected digital platforms, password protected devices, or locked in physical cabinets.
Cognitive Exam Administration
- Shall be delivered via secure testing platforms with randomized question pools to prevent pattern recognition or fully blueprinted test items.
- No cell phones, smart glasses, smart watches, audio devices, or recording devices are permitted in the testing area. If such devices are required due to a physical impairment, they may be allowed on a case-by-case basis with prior Program Director approval.
- Utilization of lockdown browsers during computer-based testing will be required for high-stakes exams.
- Proctored environments are required, either in-person or via secure monitoring systems for high-stakes exams.
Psychomotor Exam Administration
- Skills testing will occur in supervised and controlled environment with approved evaluators.
- No cell phones, smart glasses, smart watches, audio devices, or recording devices are permitted in the testing area. If such devices are required due to a physical impairment, they may be allowed on a case-by-case basis with prior Program Director approval.
- Test stations must be designed to limit visibility of scenarios and evaluator feedback to unauthorized individuals.
Student Identification
- If student class size grows beyond what the instructor can recall of who the applicant is by name then valid identification and an acknowledgement of agreeing to the confidentiality policy before beginning the exam will be required by all students attempting a high-stakes exam.
- Identification may also be required if exam proctors are utilized who do not know students through previous interactions.
Access Control and Monitoring
- Only authorized personnel will have access to exam materials, exam stations, and evaluation scoring tools.
- All exam sessions must be monitored by proctors or evaluators to ensure compliance with testing protocols.
- Proctors and evaluators will document irregularities or suspicious behavior and report the to the Program Director.
Confidentiality Agreement
Reporting and Handling Breaches
- Any suspected breach of examination security must be reported immediately to the Lead Instructor and the Program Director.
- An investigation will be conducted and the appropriate actions depending on the outcome, including potential program dismissal, and reporting to NCOEMS, will be taken.
Responsibilities
- Students: Secure copyrighted and sensitive material such as quizzes, tests, exams, and skill testing forms to limit exposure, plagiarism, and cheating.
- Instructors: Deliver examinations effectively and maintain professional standards during cognitive and psychomotor testing.
- Program Directors: Ensure alignment of examinations with this policy and monitor testing quality.
- Administrative Staff: Provide logistical and operational support for course examinations.
