patient,
drug,
dose,
route,
time,
documentation.
Remove oxygen and instruct the patient to place lips around the opening of the inhaler.
Instruct the patient to inhale deeply while depressing the canister to release the medication, and then hold their breath.
Replace the oxygen on the patient.
Document medication administration.
Reassess the patient for desired effects/adverse side effects and reassess the vital signs.
Dispose of all equipment properly.
Accepts evaluation and criticism professionally.
Shows willingness to learn/asks appropriate questions.
Interacts with simulated patient and other personnel in a professional manner (ie, uses appropriate name, explains procedures, maintains modesty, is courteous to crew, etc).
Passing criteria:
Pass: At least 70% (? of ?) successfully completed above. Currently at 0% completed.
Fail.
Fails to take BSI precautions prior to performing procedure.
Did not explain and reassure the patient to allow informed consent.
Fails to ascertain any drug allergies prior to medication administration.
Fails to ascertain the six patient medication administration rights prior to administration.
Fails to DICE medication prior to administration.
Fails to replace the patient on appropriate oxygen therapy.
Administers an inappropriate amount of medication for the patient/complaint.
