Position Overview
The EMT Lead Instructor reports to the EMT Program Director and is responsible for providing high-quality instruction to students enrolled in the Emergency Medical technician (EMT) program. This contract employee role includes curriculum development, classroom and lab instruction, and assessment of student performance, primarily in an online environment while in-person lecture and skill training will be completed by full-time staff.
Responsibilities
Instructional Duties:
- Lead classroom and laboratory instruction for EMT courses, covering all aspects of the EMT curriculum, including patient care, emergency response, and safety procedures.
- Develop and update lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments to align with state and national standards.
- Utilize a variety of teaching methods, including lectures, hands-on demonstrations, and simulation exercises, to accommodate diverse learning styles.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to students on their performance, including practical skills assessments and written exams.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and progress throughout the course.
Curriculum and Program Development:
- Collaborate with the Program Director to review and update the EMT curriculum regularly, incorporating the latest advancements in emergency medical services and educational best practices.
- Assist in the development and implementation of new courses or program enhancements to meet industry needs.
- Participate in program accreditation processes and ensure that the instructional and clinical components of the program meet all required standards.
Student Support and Advising:
- Advise and mentor students throughout their time in the EMT program, providing academic and career guidance.
- Identify students who may be struggling and develop strategies to support their success, including tutoring, remediation, or referral to additional resources.
- Foster a positive learning environment that encourages student engagement, collaboration, and professional growth.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in emergency medical services, Healthcare, Education, or a related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a certified EMT or Paramedic with instructional experience. Previous experience in an educational setting or clinical coordination is preferred.
- Strong instructional skills, with the ability to effectively teach both theoretical concepts and practical skills.
- Knowledge of EMT curriculum, clinical practices, and state/national accreditation requirements.
- Ability to adapt to changing educational environments and integrate new technology and teaching methods.
- Current certification as a North Carolina EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic.
- Instructor certification as an Instructor I with NCOEMS (AHA and NAEMT instructor credentials are highly desirable).
Work Environment:
- This position requires occasional evening and weekend work to accommodate class schedules and community events.
- The role may involve working in online environments, classroom settings, simulation labs, and off-site locations.
