Position Overview
The EMT Program Director reports to the Deputy Director of EMS and is responsible for overseeing the planning, implementation, and management of the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training programs. As a part-time, on-call position, overall oversight of the EMT program is expected with delegation to and coordination with full-time staff and 1099 contract instructors. This role involves review of the curriculum, ensuring compliance with state and national regulations, reviw of faculty management, and maintaining the highest educational standards to prepare students for successful careers in emergency medical services.
Responsibilities
Program Development & Management:
- Design, implement, and manage EMT course curricula and lesson plans that meet state and national certification standards.
- Continuously update course content to reflect the latest developments in emergency medical services and healthcare practices.
- Ensure that all training materials, equipment, and resources are up-to-date and aligned with industry standards.
- Develop and oversee simulation labs and practical exercises to enhance hands-on learning experiences.
Compliance & Accreditation:
- Ensure the EMT program complies with all state and federal regulations, including accreditation standards set by the North Carolina Office of EMS (NCOEMS).
- Prepare and maintain all documentation required for program accreditation and renewal.
- Ensures record-keeping meets applicable licensure, state, and accreditation requirements.
- Responsible for the following EMT components as required by NCOEMS (2023):
- Administrative oversight, organization, and supervision of the EMT program.
- Continuous quality review and improvement of the EMT program.
- Long-range planning and ongoing development of the EMT program.
- Evaluating the effectiveness of the instruction, faculty, and overall EMT program.
- Collaborative involvement with the Education Medical Advisor.
- Training and supervision of clinical and field internship preceptors.
- Effectiveness and quality of fulfillment of responsibilities delegated to another qualified individual.
Student Success:
- Monitor student performance and retention, implementing support systems to assist students in meeting their educational goals.
- Develop and enforce academic policies and procedures to ensure a fair and consistent learning environment.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom culture that encourages student engagement and success.
- Ensures the the learning environment is organized so that learning is maximized.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in emergency medical services, adminstration, leadership, or a related field (master’s degree preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in emergency medical services, including clinical and instructional roles.
- Previous experience in program management or educational leadership is highly preferred.
- Current certification as a North Carolina Paramedic.
- Instructor certification as an Instructor II with NCOEMS (AHA and NAEMT instructor credentials are highly desirable).

- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with students, faculty, and industry partners.
- Proficiency in using educational technology and simulation tools.
Work Environment:
- This position requires occasional evening and weekend work to accommodate class schedules and community events.
- The role may involve working in online environments, classroom settings, simulation labs, and off-site locations.
