Section 1.87 - Definitions

Class is the smaller organizational term used to identify individual sessions of learning that are typically just one or a few days in length. For example: Patient Assessment Class and Medical Terminology Class within the Classroom Course which is within the EMT Program.

Clinical Experience is defined as a planned and scheduled educational student experience with live patient contact activities in settings, such as hospitals, clinics, free-standing emergency centers, and may include field experience.

Clinical Field Experience is defined as planned and scheduled educational student time spent on an EMS unit, which may include observation and skill development, but which does not include team leading and does not contribute to the CoAEMSP definition of field internship.

Course is the medium-sized organizational term used to differentiate groups of study withing a program that are typically a term’s worth of content. For example: Classroom Course and Clinical Course within the EMT Program.

Program is the larger organizational term used to group similar courses that typically lead students to an opportunity to sit for a licensure exam. For example: EMT Program and Paramedic Program.
